Our 50 Year Journey So Far
1974 | Where It All Began
In 1974, we started Des Talbot Motor Factors in the back of our home in Hillside. It was a small beginning, but it marked the start of a family business that would grow steadily over the years.
We built the business through hard work, personal service and strong relationships with our customers. What began from the back of our home soon became the foundation for the Talbot Motor Factors we know today.
1982 | Moving to Birr
By 1982, our continued growth meant we needed more space, so we moved into larger premises in Birr Town. Here, we traded as Des Talbot & Sons Motor Factors, taking the next step in our family business.
The new premises gave us room to expand our stock and serve more customers. It was an exciting time for us and an important milestone in our journey.
1987 | Portumna Motor Factors
In 1987, our family continued to grow the business when Trish, Des’s daughter, opened a new branch in Portumna, Co. Galway. The branch traded as Portumna Motor Factors, bringing our family name and experience to a new community.
Opening the Portumna branch was a proud moment for us. It was another sign of how far we had come since those early days in Hillside and another chapter in our family story.
2024 | Celebrating 50 Years
In 2024, we celebrated an incredible 50 years in business since we first opened our doors in 1974. Reaching this milestone gave us the chance to look back on five decades of hard work, loyal customers and memories made along the way.
Today, Des’s grandson Derek has taken over the running of the business, continuing the family legacy under the name Talbot Motor Factors Ltd. We’re proud to remain a family-run business and look forward to carrying that legacy into the future.
